I have a few pieces on the Internet under anonymous names, but I can't say who or what because to me fanfic is more of a private outlet than a place to pick up readers. I have a box at the top of my closet that's full of my fanfic journals - all written longhand and nothing on the Internet. I wanted to know what was going on behind the scenes! So fanfic gave me an outlet of filling in the blanks, more or less. You know, the characters that would share a meaningful glance in chapter four and then in the epilogue five years later, you find out that they married and had adventures of their own that the author never mentions? That would drive me absolutely crazy. I would just read my favorite series over and over again, and look for the 'between the lines' stories of side characters. You know, I started out writing fanfic waaaaaay, way back before I even knew it was a thing. What did you learn about the craft of writing during those years? Pamela: You cut your teeth as an author by writing fanfic. We were fortunate to have a few minutes with her to talk about the book, the lack of other hobbies that helps make her so prolific - and why a writer who started out sweet just loves writing sexy.
